And the Color of the Year Is...

2016 will be an interesting year for design and fashion trends, with two of the biggest companies in our industry naming shades of white as their color of the year. Benjamin Moore's Simply White and Sherwin-Williams' Alabaster are crisp, pure colors that speak to a shift towards the fresh, subtle, and effortlessss for the year.

What does this mean? Expect to see monochromatic schemes everywhere! This movement away from color might be a little overwhelming, but there are ways to incorporate the neutral without sterilizing your space.

Fresh floral arrangements not only add color to a room, but will leave you reinvigorated and energized.

Adding creative nicknacks, family heirlooms, and second-hand treasures personalize a space and provide visual interest.

Dark flooring in a subtle pattern adds depth and value to this space. Keep clutter in its place by incorporating clever storage places, like the mobile cart in the corner. Fun statement pieces, like the rug, add visual interest and a welcoming feel to the space.

Incorporate variety between materials by choosing fabrics and wall coverings with different patterns and textures. Small, intricate details (like the wallpaper pattern and bedding texture, can be balanced out with larger, simple ones (like the beautiful bedside chest and the coffered ceiling).

Natural elements, such as wood, wicker, and rattan emphasize the purity of the color and create an effortless vibe.

Break away from the traditional and splurge on some funky, handmade pieces. Perfectly imperfect furniture stands out in a white space, and help to soften the color.
